6 medium turnips
water
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons butter
Directions
Step1: Wash the turnip. Peel them and cut them into slices
Step2: Boil the turnip with salt and water at high heat. Simmer it until turnips tender for 35-45 mins.
Step3: Remove the excess water and mash the turnips
Step4: Add butter and pepper. Mix it and serve
Old Fashioned Turnip Salad
Ingredients

5 medium Turnips
3 eggs, hard-boiled
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon celery salt
1 cup chopped celery
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
ground black pepper to taste
Directions
Step1: Assembly. In a large bowl combines the mayonnaise, pepper, mustard, celery salt, garlic salt, relish, onion, celery, eggs, and turnips.
Mix well and refrigerate it until cooled
For the stove
Step1: Boil the water and add a small amount of salt into the water. After boiling add turnip and cook for 15 minutes or until tender
Step2: Cool the turnips, peel, and chop it
Step3: Boil the eggs in water for about 10-12 minutes. After boiling cool it, peel and chop the eggs

1 cube chicken bouillon
3 cups diced peeled turnips
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 tablespoon butter, or more as needed

Step1: In a medium pot adds water, turnips, and a chicken bouillon cube. Heat on the medium flame for about 15 mins. or until the water evaporated and turnips are tender
Step2: Now add butter and let it melt. When butter is melted sprinkle the sugar. Stir it to cook for about 10 minutes or until sugar and butter make the sticky coating on the turnip
Step3: Serve it hot
Old Spicy Mashed Turnip Recipe
Ingredients

Turnips 300 gms
Tomatoes 200 gms
Green chilies 2
Green peas 1/2 cup
Green coriander 2 to 3 tbsp (finely chopped )
oil 2 to 3 tbsp
Asafoetida 1/2 pinch
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Ginger paste 1 tsp
Lemon 1/2
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder 1/4 tsp
Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
Garam masala 1/4 tsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Salt 1 tsp or to taste
Directions
Step1: Take 4 turnips washed and dried. Peel it then cut into 1 by 1-inch pieces.
Step2: Put the cooker to heat add 2 tsp oil to it. When hot, Reduce flame, add cumin seeds, ginger paste, asafoetida, coriander powder, turmeric powder. Slightly roast it.
Step3: Add the turnip to it, salt, red chili powder, and 1/4 cup of water to it.
Step4: Close the lid of the cooker. Increase the flame. Cook the turnip till a single whistle. after a whistle, reduce the flame. Let the turnip boil on low flame for 5 minutes.
Step5: Add 1 tbsp oil to the pan and let it heat. Then add cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, ginger paste. slightly fry it. Also add tomato, green chili paste, and red chili powder. Cook on the medium flame for bout 3-4 mins or until oil separates
Step6: Add 1/2 cup green peas to the masala. Cover and cook it on a medium flame for 3 minutes. Check if tender. Add 1 tsp sugar (optional) and salt.
Step7: At that time turnips in the cooker are boiled as well. Open lid of the cooker, mash well. mix it to the masala. Take 1/4 tsp garam masala to add it. Add a little green coriander. Mix all ingredients well. Cover and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes. Keep medium flame.
Step8: After 3 minutes old fashioned turnips are ready, add 1/2 tsp lemon juice to it. Take it out in a bowl.
Turnip casserole recipe
Ingredients

2 eggs
1 onion
1/8 tsp nutmeg
2 tbsp butter
4 or 5 medium turnips
2 cups stale bread crumbs
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp Sea salt
Directions
Step1: In a saucepan add water let boil and then 1/2 tsp sea salt, onion, then peel 4 turnips cut into pieces, and boil until fork tender.
Step2: When turnips are boiled remove from water into bowl and mash with 4 tbsp butter, pepper, nutmeg, brown sugar.
Step3: Then in a separate bowl add eggs and mix together, add to the turnip and fold together with 1 cup of bread crumbs.
Step4: In a casserole pan add the turnip mixture to the pan and top with bread crumbs and bake in a 350º oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
Old fashioned roasted turnip recipe

1 pound Turnips rinsed
Ghee or olive oil
Sea Salt
1 Lemon
Directions
Step1: Preheat oven to 425ºF.
Step2: Slice turnips into wedges.
Step3: Place them on a baking sheet and add enough ghee or oil to fully coat the turnips (4 tablespoons), and add salt. Combine and place in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Step4: Bake until golden (~25 minutes) and give each turnip a flip halfway through.
Step5: Remove from the oven when done, and squeeze the juice from one whole lemon right over the top. Serve and enjoy!!
